South Africa have enjoyed an almost flawless campaign so far. Fifty matches into this 20-team T20 World Cup, they remain the only unbeaten side and are on course to reach the semi-finals with a perfect record intact.

On Sunday, Aiden Markram’s team will face neighbours Zimbabwe, who have not defeated South Africa in international cricket since 2000. In fact, Zimbabwe have managed just two wins in 58 completed internationals against them.

History is only part of Zimbabwe’s challenge. Current form and conditions have also worked against them. After impressive victories over Australia and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe have struggled to maintain that momentum in India. Consecutive defeats on batting-friendly surfaces at the Wankhede and Chepauk ended their hopes of making the semi-finals.

Their bowling attack has been under heavy pressure, conceding back-to-back totals in excess of 250 against West Indies and India. Fielding standards have dipped as well. After dropping just one catch during the group stage, Zimbabwe have put down at least five chances across two Super Eight matches. Despite the setbacks, they can take pride in securing direct qualification for the 2028 T20 World Cup, avoiding the need to go through the qualifiers.

With little at stake in this fixture, South Africa could rotate their squad once again, similar to their earlier dead rubber against UAE in Delhi.

Team News – South Africa Likely to Rotate

South Africa may rest several first-choice players to keep them fresh for the knockouts. Jason Smith, Kwena Maphaka, George Linde and Anrich Nortje are all in line for opportunities.

South Africa (probable XI): Aiden Markram (capt), Quinton de Kock (wk), Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, Jason Smith/David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen/Kwena Maphaka, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj/George Linde, Lungi Ngidi/Anrich Nortje.

The presence of four left-handers in South Africa’s top seven could see left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza left out again. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, may look to strengthen their attack by recalling wristspinner Graeme Cremer in place of medium-pacer Tinotenda Maposa.

Zimbabwe (probable XI): Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani (wk), Dion Myers, Ryan Burl, Sikandar Raza (capt), Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Brad Evans, Graeme Cremer, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava.
